I spent the afternoon yesterday walking the neighborhood around N Mississippi ave, and admiring the many home gardens. If you have even a small yard you can plan so much food (trying hard not to covet)! But! even without a yard/garden/etc, there are still some options for growing things outdoors.
I have two columnar apples that are perfect for small space/rental living. They’re in pots and can live there indefinitely and be perfectly happy. They fit well on balconies, decks, porches… I have a small space on my landlord’s deck I use for these two – it’s perfect for enjoying the blossoms in Spring, and gets a variety of sun for cultivating the fruit. This winter they’ll probably need to find slightly bigger homes and be re-potted, but they’ll still be compact as ever.
